“We are thrilled to be collaborating on the Employer Project to not only to provide the learners with the unique opportunities to practise data science on offer at the Bank of England, but to also give us the opportunity to reach a broader pool of potential talent from diverse backgrounds and experience who we know have the skills we need to help us achieve our mission.”

James Benford, Chief Data Officer at Bank of England

Why learn data science?

Ten years ago, a data scientist was labelled the “sexiest job of the 21st century” by Harvard Business Review. By 2019, postings for the role had increased by 256%. Over the years, the role’s demand has continued to grow alongside the career potential: it’s the highest-paying job in the UK, with strong job satisfaction.

The demand for data scientists is driven by the ever-increasing amount of data produced and captured, and the move towards data-based decision-making. Until now, the role has been characterised as a technical role and not necessarily a business role. Herein lies a huge opportunity: When you learn how data science applies to commercial contexts, you’ll be able to go beyond statistics and AI to shape the future of a business.
